In this workshop participants will be introduced to backstrap weaving. Together we will create a one-inch wide band with geometric designs picked up in the warp. This is a global weaving technique. Indigenous communities in Oaxaca, Mexico, the highlands in Guatemala, and the Andes mountains in Peru make bands with this technique. Kyrgyz weavers in central Asia also use it to make yurt bands. Participants can turn their final pieces into a camera strap, a hat band, a ukulele strap, a decorative trimming, or other items they can dream up. Registration is limited to 12 participants.
