Janet Marion Purdy, Associate Curator at the Art Institute of Chicago, will present about the current exhibition Embroidered Traditions from Morocco to Afghanistan. On view now through January 25, 2027, this exhibition focuses on work made by artists in Southwest Asia and North Africa, and centers on pathways that reveal deep cultural exchange shaped by diverse landscapes. The work on view shows the movement of peoples and the interweaving with multiple religious traditions and urban fashions.
This lecture is hosted by Jeremy Foltz and is part of the Africa at Noon lecture series through the African Studies Program, as well as co-sponsored by the Nancy M. Bruce Center for Design and Material Culture.
