Join staff from the Allen Centennial Garden as they dye embroidery floss with different plants harvested from the garden. This session will feature weld, indigo, and coreopsis. Staff will demonstrate basic principals of plant-based dying including: how much plant matter to include in your vats, the relationship between heat and time, differences between fiber types, color modification with Ph and strategies for keeping colors vibrant.
The floss dyed during this session will be used in a series of community quilting workshops to collectively stitch Together-together, a collaborative work-in-progress quilt by Carlee Latimer currently on view in the Find Your Quilt exhibition.
Drop in; no registration required.
