Tours of The Nick will be available after the lecture.

Emily Ostertag,  2017 Early Career Alumni Award Winner, will share her journey as a former UW swimmer (‘02-‘06) and School of Human Ecology Interior design graduate (’06 BS, ’08 MS) to her current work and passion – leading the interior design of several sports and recreation buildings on the UW campus. Currently a senior interior designer at HOK in Kansas City, Emily specializes in collegiate athletics and recreation design. Her nationwide projects have garnered numerous awards, covering over 2 million square feet and total more than a half-billion dollars in project costs.

At UW-Madison, Emily was the lead interior designer for the Nicholas Recreation Center and Soderholm Aquatic Center. The “Nick,” replaced the Southeast Recreational Facility, where Emily logged over 5,600 hours in the SERF pool as a student-athlete. Emily is also the lead interior designer for the Bakke Recreation Center (formerly the Nat), which is presently under construction.

During this lecture, Emily will discuss how her time as a UW athlete and Human Ecology alumnus has influenced her design of these dynamic spaces. She will also delve into the process and evolution of her design for the Nick and the Bakke Recreation Center.

This event is co-sponsored with the Design Studies Department.
